Gladys Porter Zoo Hosts Annual Ocelot Run

Brownsville, Texas (February 5, 2026) – Registration is now open for the Gladys Porter Zoo’s annual 5K and 1-mile fun run to support ocelot conservation. This popular event is likely to sellout! The Ocelot 5K Run will take place on March 7th starting at 7:30 a.m., and the 1-mile fun run will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Gladys Porter Zoo.

The 5K route will take guests through some of the most popular areas around the Mitte Cultural District before leading them into the scenic Gladys Porter Zoo for the final stretch. The 1-mile route will take guests on an energetic run through the Zoo. Both will begin in the Zoo’s parking lot.

All participants will receive a medal at the finish line. The 5K will include the use of timing chips to record each runner’s time with additional distinctive medals awarded to the top three runners of each age group and to the top three overall males and females. A link will be provided on the Zoo’s website to access the results, certificate and digital photo finish.

The cost to participate in the Ocelot Run is only $35.00 for the 5K and $30.00 for the 1-mile fun run. This cost covers a limited edition dri-fit ocelot shirt, race bib, race medal and admission to the Zoo. Proceeds from this event directly benefit the Friends of Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge and their efforts toward ocelot conservation.

Space is limited, so register today on the Zoo’s website. Participants are strongly encouraged to register before February 25th to guarantee their preferred shirt size. Runners of all ages are encouraged to participate in ocelot attire or costumes. Packet pick-up will take place on March 6th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Meadows Room at the Gladys Porter Zoo.
